Based on Marin Museum of Bicycling website, in 1982 an earlier version of Univega Alpina, together with Specialized Stumpjumper, became the first mass-produced mountain bikes. This bike is a gift from my friend Doc Sprocket, whose spectacular restorations are always a work of art. Following Doc’s advice, I accentuated this awesome spotted/hammered frame with pink components.
Best for 5’2″-5’8″ riders. 17″ triple-butted CroMoly steel frame, 21-speed drivetrain, 26″x1.96″ all terrain tires. I replaced the old-school bottom bracket with the new, sealed BB; replaced rear wheel (Araya rims, Suntour freewheel) with newer wheel (Araya rims, new Shimano 7-speed cassette).
This is Ainsley’s bike now.
