1960 Murray Blaz-O-Jet tricycle

This tricycle is not for sale. I am restoring it for Aaron.

The 1960 Murray Blaz-O-Jet tricycle is a classic piece of American mid-century toy design, best known as a high-style “sidewalk cruiser” tricycle produced by the Murray Ohio Manufacturing Company. This bike’s design was likely influenced by the work of industrial designer Viktor Schreckengost. Its sleek lines and “Jet” branding reflect the public’s fascination with the space-age, jet travel, and automotive trends of the era. These tricycles were built with heavy-gauge steel bodies, making them incredibly durable, compared to modern plastic toys.

The original 1960s Blaz-O-Jets are rare. Their iconic design remains popular through the Hallmark Kiddie Car Classics series. In the 1990s, Hallmark released highly detailed, die-cast scale models of the 1960 Blaz-O-Jets. These miniature replicas are widely sought-after collectibles today.

In 1960, the price for Murray’s high-end “jet-themed” tricycles varied across Sears, Montgomery Ward, and local toy shops, but the catalog data from that era indicates they retailed for $12 to $16, when other tricycles cost $7 to $9. Today, the Hallmark scale models of these bikes cost $20-50 :–)
